AN IRISH TRIBUTE
September 11, 2001, will rank among the bloodiest days in the history of the Irish people. Nobody knows exactly how many were lost but we do know that thousands of members of the global Irish community will never see their loved ones again.
Many of the innocent victims of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania perished in a valiant struggle to save the lives of others. The heroics of firefighters, police officers and emergency workers will be remembered alongside office workers and plane passengers who displayed unfathomable courage. Many who died were leaders in their chosen professions: success stories of an Irish diaspora built on the many sacrifices of their forebears.
To honor all those who died, and to allow their friends and families to do the same, IrishAbroad has set up this special site. We do not pretend it is in any way complete – we need your help. Surnames can give clues but cannot be definitive. Also, for every single person who was killed, there are countless friends and relations with anecdotes and stories to tell. Everyone will have their own memories: schoolyard games, college parties, taking the kids to school, going on holidays, the last kiss, the last meeting, the last cup of coffee on that fateful morning.
This global Irish site has been created as a place for everyone. Irish people have friends and relatives of every ethnicity, creed and colour and these should be remembered too. Our tears are all the same. We would also like survivors to share their stories. We intend that IrishTribute.com will serve as a virtual beacon of bravery, love and hope.
NOTE: You can no longer add tributes but you can look at the tributes already paid.
